Baseball Recap: Tocoi Creek Comes Up Short

Tocoi Creek dropped down to 9-7 on Thursday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the West Orange Warriors by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Toros have suffered since February 17th.

Tocoi Creek got a good showing from Hunter Alba, who pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Alba has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Chase Pate made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and one RBI.

As for West Orange, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games.

On West Orange's side, Lukas Stirewalt tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched.

At the plate, West Orange's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Evan Goodmon, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. Another was Joseph Beechner, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Coming up, Tocoi Creek will be playing in front of their home fans against West Nassau at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for West Orange, they will take on Creekside at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Knights' pitching crew has only allowed two runs per game this season, so the Warriors' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
