The Village Christian Crusaders will take on the Heritage Christian Warriors at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Village Christian has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Heritage Christian will arrive with four straight victories.
Village Christian came up short against Whittier Christian on Tuesday, falling 17-2.
Village Christian saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gaby Robel, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
While Heritage Christian didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on Taft with a sharp 16-1 win on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won five matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.
Brooklyn Mireles made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Erika Laufer, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tatum Tassio, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Heritage Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Taft only posted a batting average of .176.
Heritage Christian's victory bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Village Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
Village Christian took their win against Heritage Christian when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 6-0. Does Village Christian have another victory up their sleeve, or will Heritage Christian turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
