Baseball Recap: Pleasant Grove Takes a Loss

If Pleasant Grove was riding high fresh off their 21-2 takedown of Midfield on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Pleasant Grove Spartans fell just short of the Fultondale Wildcats by a score of 6-4 on Saturday. The Spartans were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wildcats earlier this season, when they won 9-4.

Zion Barney was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing Four bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Pleasant Grove's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 2-4 when he doesn't). Christian Fikes also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Pleasant Grove's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Fultondale, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Coming up, Pleasant Grove will head out to challenge Southeastern at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Fultondale, they will challenge Midfield at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Fultondale is facing Midfield at the right time seeing as Midfield is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
