Preview: Mt. Rainier Rams vs. Tahoma Bears
The Mt. Rainier Rams will play host again and welcome the Tahoma Bears, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Thursday, Mt. Rainier was able to grind out a solid victory over Decatur, taking the game 62-50. The win was just what Mt. Rainier needed coming off of a 73-50 defeat in their prior matchup.
Zach Luz continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 38 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Rylan Keane was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two steals and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Tahoma didn't have too much trouble with Kentridge on the road on Thursday as they won 64-46. Given Tahoma's advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 25th, while Kentridge is ranked 166th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Carter Stonerock was his usual excellent self, scoring 24 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Adam Davis, who scored 11 points.
Mt. Rainier now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Tahoma, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Mt. Rainier hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 58.4 points per game. However, it's not like Tahoma struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 69.5 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Mt. Rainier lost to Tahoma at home by a decisive 58-42 margin in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can Mt. Rainier avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
