Basketball Recap: Mater Academy East Las Vegas Takes Down Churchill County in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Mater Academy East Las Vegas rose to the challenge on Thursday. They snuck past the Churchill County Greenwave with a 48-43 win.

Amija Macon was her usual excellent self, going 7-for-12 to rack up 24 points along with eight rebounds and six blocks. She has been hot, having posted two or more blocks the last eight times she's played. Another player making a difference was Myla Faught, who posted 12 points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

Churchill County lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Raegan Johnson, who had six points along with nine rebounds and three blocks. Those three blocks gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Janessa Bettencourt, who scored six points and ten boards.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-7 record this season. Churchill County's defeat dropped their record down to 23-7.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 47-41 victory against Virgin Valley on the 21st. Churchill County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
