Baseball Recap: Foothill Gets the Win

Foothill won against Chowchilla last Wednesday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Cougars walked away with a 7-3 win over the McKinleyville Panthers. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 5-4 on April 5th.

Blake Schwerdt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Foothill is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 7-10 otherwise. Schwerdt was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Connor Modesitt, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

The victory made it two in a row for Foothill and bumps their season record up to 10-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for McKinleyville, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-4.

Foothill has already played their next game, a 7-3 defeat against Chico on the 29th. As for McKinleyville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 7-0 victory against Fortuna on the 26th.
