Baseball Recap: Smethport Takes a Loss

Smethport had lost three straight at home, but on Monday they dropped down to 8-7 to make it four. They lost 15-0 to the Elk County Catholic Crusaders. If the Hubbers were looking for revenge after losing 16-4 to the Crusaders when the teams met back in May of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Elk County Catholic, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-3. The result was nothing new for the Crusaders, who have now won nine contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

For Elk County Catholic's part, Wyatt Brem was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Brem was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Elk County Catholic let Brady Leathers and Jake Ruffner run wild. Leathers went 1-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Ruffner went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those two hits gave Ruffner a new career-high. Jack Breindel was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Smethport will host Otto-Eldred at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Elk County Catholic, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Cameron County at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
