Basketball Recap: Keystone's Run of Three Straight Wins Now Over

It was a good run, but Keystone unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 74-66 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Brookside Cardinals. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Wildcats came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 169th, while the Cardinals are ranked 414th).

Despite the defeat, Keystone saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Liam Goran went 12 for 20 en route to 32 points and three steals. Goran's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Colt Cowling, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 boards.

Keystone's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 12-2. As for Brookside, they pushed their record up to 8-5 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Keystone will challenge Black River at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. As for Brookside, they will face off against Vermilion at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Brookside's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games.
