Basketball Recap: Holmes County Takes Down Hilliard in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Holmes County had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They enjoyed a cozy 56-39 win over the Hilliard Red Flashes. 56 seems to be a good number for the Blue Devils as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.

Emma Whitaker continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double with 20 points and ten rebounds. She has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 15 times she's played. Jacee Bowers was another key player, putting up 12 points and three steals.

Despite the loss, Hilliard still got an impressive performance from Alyssa Hallman, who posted 15 points. That was a full 38.5% of Hilliard's points, marking the third time in a row Hallman has put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kailyn Ballance, who scored five points and six boards.

The win (which was Holmes County's 14th in a row) raised their record to 26-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.1 points over those games. As for Hilliard, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 18-9.

Holmes County has already played their next match, a 65-43 loss against Wildwood on the 28th. Hilliard does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
