Softball Recap: Father Ryan Takes a Loss

Father Ryan had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 3-12-1 to make it four. They lost 16-1 to the Brentwood Academy Eagles. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Irish couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Brentwood Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games.

For Brentwood Academy's part, Ashley Hill made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Hill has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Betsy Gower, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2 runs per game. Jessica Cooke was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

Father Ryan does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Brentwood Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against Page at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Patriots' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
