Basketball Recap: Centre Comes Up Short

Centre was the 56-53 winner over Herington when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Centre Cougars were dealt a 63-35 defeat at the hands of the Herington Railroaders on Tuesday. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mason Mortensen continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Herington, dropping a double-double with 37 points and 15 rebounds. That makes it 13 consecutive games in which Mortensen has scored at least a third of Herington's points. Pierce Schelesner was another key player, putting up ten points and three steals.

Centre's loss dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Herington, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-11.

Looking ahead, Centre will venture away from home to take on Peabody-Burns at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Centre is facing Peabody-Burns at the right time seeing as Peabody-Burns is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Herington, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Goessel at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
