Basketball Recap: Spruce Creek's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak at Home

Spruce Creek entered their contest against Deltona on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Spruce Creek Hawks took a 66-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Deltona Wolves. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Hawks came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while the Wolves are ranked 569th).

Leading Deltona to victory were Xavier Cerrud and Tim Mccarthy. Cerrud shot 6-for-10 from long range and almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds, while Mccarthy went 9 of 12 on his way to 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gage Gentry, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 10 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Spruce Creek's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-5. As for Deltona, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-10.

Spruce Creek will welcome Winter Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Winter Springs is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.5 points per game this season. Deltona has already played their next game, an 88-52 defeat against Lake Mary on the 8th.
