Basketball Recap: Belle Plaine Drops Season-High Score on Fredonia

Belle Plaine scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 57-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fredonia Yellowjackets. The Dragons lost against the Yellowjackets in their previous head to head back in December of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 71-42 score last time.

Belle Plaine's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ryder Slack, who went 5-for-10 on his way to 13 points and five rebounds. Slack is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Hayden Whitley, who posted eight points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Belle Plaine is on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4. As for Fredonia, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Belle Plaine and Smoky Valley will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Fredonia will take on Bluestem in a holiday battle on Tuesday. The Yellowjackets will be up against the Lions' rather soft defense (which has allowed 56 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
