Preview: Wilson Prep Tigers vs. West Columbus Vikings

Wilson Prep has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the West Columbus Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Wilson Prep had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They breezed by the Mustangs at home to the tune of 42-15. Wilson Prep's win was all the more impressive since North Moore was averaging only 15.08 points allowed on the season.

Wilson Prep's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Christian Richardson, who rushed for 119 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries, and Travon Usher, who rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries. Wilson Prep also got a significant boost from Khamani Barnes, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 112 yards.

Meanwhile, West Columbus came tearing into Friday's contest with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31 points) and they left with even more momentum. They didn't even let Lakewood onto the board and left with a 42-0 victory. Given West Columbus' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while Lakewood is ranked 283rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Unique Kelly was his usual excellent self, rushing for 133 yards and four touchdowns on only ten carries. Kelly was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 59 yards.

Another reason for the win was West Columbus' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Lakewood's QB won't forget ?? Triston?nuk?freeman?? anytime soon given Triston?nuk?freeman?? sacked him twice.

Wilson Prep pushed their record up to 11-1 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home. As for West Columbus, their win bumped their record up to an identical 11-1.

Keep an eye on the end zone in Friday's game as both teams haven't had much trouble getting there this season. Wilson Prep commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 5.3 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like West Columbus struggles in that department as they've been even better at 5.7 per game. With these two high-octane teams facing off on Friday, fans should be in for an exciting offensive matchup.
