Preview: Gilman City Hawks vs. Worth County Tigers

The Gilman City Hawks will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Worth County Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Gilman City's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Worth County has been banged up by eight consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

Last Monday, Gilman City didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Northeast Nodaway, but they still walked away with a 37-33 victory.

Meanwhile, Worth County came up short against North Andrew on Tuesday and fell 49-36. Worth County has struggled against North Andrew recently, as their game on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite their loss, Worth County saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Kynah Steele, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and four steals, was perhaps the best of all. Steele set a new season high mark in blocks with three. The team also got some help courtesy of Kristen Tracy, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and three steals.

The victory got Gilman City back to even at 4-4. As for Worth County, their loss dropped their record down to 0-9.

Gilman City was dealt a bruising 58-15 loss at the hands of Worth County in their previous matchup back in February of 2019. Thankfully for Gilman City, Anna Gladstone (who scored 24 points along with eight steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
