MaxPreps Top 25 national high school football rankings

The top three teams in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Football Rankings presented by the Army National Guard all performed very well this week, solidifying their spots -- at least for now.

Washington and Allen, the nation's top two teams, each enjoyed blowouts while No. 3 Aquinas notched one of the biggest wins of the year so far, a 27-13 road victory over John Curtis that might not even have been as close as the score indicates.

No. 4 St. John Bosco defeated Chandler, coming from behind to do so. However, star quarterback Josh Rosen left the game due to injury and did not return.



Karr, DeSoto and North Gwinnett all notched big victories as well.

MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Football Rankings presented by the Army National Guard

1. (1) Washington (Miami), 3-0
Washington showed no letdown after its big win over Central, defeating Carol City 45-0.

2. (2) Allen (Texas), 3-0
Allen pounded Richardson 52-7 to move to 3-0.

3. (3) St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), 2-0
With an impressive, 27-13 road victory over Curtis, Aquinas more than justified its spot in the Top 3. Story

4. (4) St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.), 3-0
Despite an injury to quarterback Josh Rosen, St. John Bosco came back to defeat Chandler 52-31. Story



5. (5) Karr (New Orleans), 2-0
In one of the more highly anticipated games in Louisiana this year, Devante "Speedy" Noil led Edna Karr to a 33-24 victory over St. Augustine. Story

6. (12) DeSoto (Texas), 3-0
In one of the more eye-popping performances of the weekend, DeSoto put up 61 points in a blowout of powerhouse Euless Trinity.

7. (8) North Gwinnett (Suwanee, Ga.), 3-0
North Gwinnett dominated Norcross in the second half to win 36-17. Story / Photos

8. (9) Katy (Texas), 3-0
Against The Woodlands, Katy made it look easy, winning 37-14.

9. (10) Central (Miami), 2-1
Central rebounded from its loss to Washington with a 49-0 shutout against Coral Reef.

10. (11) Coppell (Texas), 3-0
Coppell continued to look impressive on both sides of the ball in a 69-20 victory over Rockwall.

11. (14) Bellevue (Wash.), 2-0
The Wolverines continue to tear through in-state foes, this time defeating Bothell 49-6.

12. (15) Northwestern (Rock Hill, S.C.), 4-0

13. (18) St. Joseph Regional (Montvale, N.J.), 2-0
For the second week in a row, St. Joseph dominated an out-of-state opponent. This time, it beat New Smyrna Beach 49-13.

14. (16) Folsom (Calif.), 3-0
Folsom once again lit up the scoreboard in 56-23 win over Roseville.

15. (17) Paramus Catholic (N.J.), 2-0
It was a struggle early, but Paramus Catholic prevailed against Delbarton 30-18.

16. (20) University (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), 3-0
In a Thursday night affair, University pounded Cypress Bay 37-7.

17. (21) Hoover (Ala.), 3-0
Hoover has outscored opponents 115-10 following its second consecutive shutout, a 63-0 win over Jackson-Olin.

18. (22) Mountain Pointe (Phoenix), 4-0
Mountain Pointe looks like the state's top team in what appears to be a very strong year for football in Arizona. It downed Maryvale 71-0.

19. (13) Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.), 3-0
Hamilton eeked out a victory against Pinnacle, 24-20, despite a rash of injuries.



20. (23) Colerain (Cincinnati), 3-0
Colerain has beaten St. Xavier (Cincinnati) and Trinity (Louisville) in consecutive weeks and has a good shot to finish the regular season unbeaten. Story

21. (6) Curtis (River Ridge, La.), 2-1
Curtis' loss to Aquinas was mostly a testament to how strong Aquinas looks this year. Curtis has upcoming games against St. Augustine and Karr, which should give a good indicator of how it stacks up against Louisiana's best this year. Story

22. (24) De La Salle (Concord, Calif.), 3-0
In a much stronger performance, De La Salle defeated St. Mary's (Stockton) after struggling against Serra in Week 2.

23. (25) Ensworth (Nashville, Tenn.), 3-0
Ensworth has scored 55 or more points in two straight weeks following a 56-3 win over Pope John Paul II.

24. (NR) Manatee (Bradenton, Fla.), 3-0
Manatee has three solid wins on its resume, having beaten Gilman, Venice and Friendship Collegiate. It is young and could be significantly better by season's end.

25. (NR) Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.), 3-0
The landscape of SoCal looks much different than it did just weeks ago. Mater Dei, with three decisive victories, now has people thinking in Orange County that it could be among the area's best.
