Steilacoom is 1-9 against Orting since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Sentinels will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Steilacoom is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They came up short against Eatonville, falling 20-10.
Hannah Basford and Harper Runn did some serious damage despite the final result: Basford went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Runn got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Hannah Pace was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Orting, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 18-3 margin over Foss on Thursday. Considering the Cardinals have won five games by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Orting let Kathryn Prest and Madalynn Halte run wild. Prest went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs, while Halte went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI Prest has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ryann Polly, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Orting's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-8-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.7 runs over those games. As for Steilacoom, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-13.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Steilacoom has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. However, it's not like Orting struggles in that department as they've averaged .501. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Steilacoom suffered a grim 24-14 defeat to Orting when the teams last played last Thursday. Will the Sentinels have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
