5A Region III District 20 recap Oct. 30, 2012
Lamar extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region III District 20 this week by beating Madison, 41-0. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.
Bellaire moved up to 386 from 416 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Cardinals were able to make move up by topping Westbury 35-28.
Xavier Holman was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 13 carries, he ran for 189 yards as Westside defeated Houston Math Science & Tech. Teammate Michael Haywood added to the ground attack by rushing for 78 yards.
Darrell Colbert put up the best numbers through the air as Lamar topped the Marlins. He finished with 13 completions for 159 yards and three touchdowns. Colbert's favorite target this week was Cory Mitchell, who caught three passes for 33 yards.
Hartzog was the best wideout in 5A Region III District 20 this week as the Wolves beat the Tigers. Hartzog racked up two receptions for 48 yards. Christian Aleman helped Westside's passing attack out by catching one ball for 15 yards.
5-foot-10 quarterback Colbert of Tom Nolen's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1246. He has also thrown 14 touchdowns. On the ground, Westside's Holman has rushed for 799 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Hartzog. The Westside star has 22 catches for 496 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Bellaire takes on the Redskins. Trey Sissom's team is in third place, while Lamar is in first place.
Mark Byrd's team took down Houston Math Science & Tech 49-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Holman in the win.
