Basketball Recap: Pioneer Diamondbacks vs. Harlingen Cardinals
Pioneer couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They received a blow on Saturday as they fell 60-43 to the Harlingen Cardinals. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Diamondbacks of the 39-37 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2022.
Several Diamondbacks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Muhamed Shaath, who had 16 points plus eight rebounds. What's more, Shaath also racked up two threes, the most he's had since back in January. Nathan Reyes was another key player, posting nine points in addition to two steals.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pioneer will head out to square off against Santa Gertrudis Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pioneer is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road dating back to last season. As for Harlingen, they will venture away from home to take on Lopez at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
