Recap: Lakeside Lancers vs. Vista del Lago Ravens
This season hasn't been kind to The Lakeside Lancers, who are still winless after their ninth game. They were dealt a 49-0 defeat at the hands of Vista del Lago on Friday. While losing is never fun, Lakeside can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 790th, while Vista del Lago is ranked 262nd).
Vista del Lago's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dezmone Woods, who rushed for 75 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Another player making a difference was Larry Joyce, who threw for 120 yards and two touchdowns while completing 88.9% of his passes.
Lakeside's loss was their sixth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-9. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-1 Maranatha and 9-3 Paloma Valley (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 60.6% over those games). As for Vista del Lago, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lakeside will challenge Paloma Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Vista del Lago, they will head out on the road to face off against Poly at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Poly will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.
