Basketball Recap: Nucla's Victory on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Six

Nucla came tearing into Tuesday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Ridgway Demons by a score of 40-29. The team ran away with 30 points in the first half and mostly just sat on those to pick up the victory.

Nucla's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Darcy Bray, who almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine boards. Bray is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kendra McCluer, who went 5 for 10 en route to 12 points and four steals.

Nucla smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 34 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Ridgway's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emery Cornell, who posted four points and three steals. Addy Gardiner was another key player, putting up nine points.

Nucla pushed their record up to 16-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.8 points over those games. As for Ridgway, their loss dropped their record down to 9-7.

Coming up, Nucla is taking a road trip to square off against Dolores at 4:30 p.m. on February 18th. As for Ridgway, they will welcome Ouray at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
