Basketball Recap: Armstrong Comes Up Short

After flying high against Mechanicsville last Tuesday, Armstrong came back down to earth. The Armstrong Wildcats were outmatched by the Glen Allen Jaguars and fell 96-67. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 354th, while the Jaguars are ranked 67th).

It was another big night for Faron Friend, who posted 37 points and seven steals for Glen Allen. Friend has become a key player for Glen Allen: the team is 11-3 when he posts at least 25 points, but 1-2 otherwise. Chase James was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.

Armstrong's loss dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Glen Allen, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Armstrong will take on Highland Springs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Armstrong knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Highland Springs likes a good challenge. As for Glen Allen, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Glen Allen Jaguars challenge the Deep Run Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Glen Allen knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully Deep Run likes a good challenge.
