Baseball Recap: Pocono Mountain West Triumphs

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Pocono Mountain West and Louis E. Dieruff meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. The Panthers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over the Huskies. With that win, the Panthers brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

Kolby Kaulfers made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Kaulfers was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

Kaulfers wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Walters, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Those four hits gave Walters a new career-high. Another was Sean Brauning, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Pocono Mountain West always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are 3-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Pocono Mountain West's record is now 4-5. As for Louis E. Dieruff, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Looking ahead, Pocono Mountain West is taking a road trip to square off against Stroudsburg at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Louis E. Dieruff, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against East Stroudsburg South at 4:00 p.m. The Huskies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cavaliers have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season.
