Basketball Recap: Nenah Brown Key Part of a Team Effort in Mustangs Win

Rancho Solano Prep posted their closest win since November 17, 2023 on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Gridley Bulldogs, sneaking past 43-40. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 140th in Arizona, while the Bulldogs are ranked 957th in California), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Rancho Solano Prep's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nenah Brown, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 rebounds. With that strong performance, Brown is now averaging an impressive 8.4 boards per game. Another player making a difference was Heidi Iancu, who posted 13 points.

Rancho Solano Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Rancho Solano Prep has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.4 points per game. As for Gridley, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.

Rancho Solano Prep and Davis Sr. will face off at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Davis Sr. will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Rancho Solano Prep surely won't give up without a fight. After both having extra time off, Gridley and Wheatland will shake off the cobwebs and square off against one another at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Gridley is facing Wheatland at the right time seeing as Wheatland is stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
