Softball Game Preview: Nottingham Northstars vs. Hightstown Rams

The Nottingham Northstars will venture away from home to challenge the Hightstown Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Nottingham's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last four games.

While Nottingham didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by a 16-4 margin over Maple Shade on Tuesday. Considering the Northstars have won four matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Hightstown never got on the board in their matchup on Wednesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against South Brunswick on Thursday. They skirted past the Vikings 11-10.

Hightstown let Sofia Hulme and Olivia Werden run wild. Hulme went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double, while Werden went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs Werden has posted since back in April of 2025. Hayden Bustos also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Hightstown was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Nottingham is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. Hightstown's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4-1.

Nottingham might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from Hightstown in their previous meeting back in April of 2022. Can the Northstars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
