Basketball Recap: Newkirk Takes a Loss

Newkirk lost against Pawhuska back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Newkirk Tigers lost to the Pawhuska Huskies at home by a 48-30 margin. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 222nd, while the Huskies are ranked 44th).

Leading Pawhuska to victory were Hannah Reynolds and Brooklyn Miles. Reynolds went 8 for 17 en route to 20 points and eight steals, while Miles went 7 of 15 on her way to 16 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Miles is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Emillie Curry was another key player, putting up six points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Newkirk has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Pawhuska, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 11-2.

Newkirk will take on Alva at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Pawhuska has already played their next contest (against Woodland), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
