Softball Recap: Oxnard Triumphs

Oxnard posted their closest victory since March 6th on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past the Centennial Golden Hawks 5-4.

Destinee Herrera made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run.

Herrera wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jaylene Jimenez, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave Jimenez a new career-high. Jazzlene Dominguez also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Oxnard hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 6-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Oxnard is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Centennial, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-8.

Oxnard wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 5-5 draw against Sutter on the 9th. As for Centennial, they have also already played their next contest, a 6-1 defeat against Righetti on the 9th.
