Baseball Recap: Millard South Takes Down Ranked Westview

Millard South faced Westview in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Patriots walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Wolverines. Those six runs were actually the fewest the Patriots have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Noah Haakinson tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Roy Steventon and Braden Swaney did most of the damage at the plate: Steventon scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2, while Swaney scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Steventon has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Will Thomas, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Millard South's win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average this season. As for Westview, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-3.
