Baseball Recap: Hesperia Christian Finds Home Field Redemption Against University Prep

There's no place like home for Hesperia Christian, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They put the hurt on the University Prep Jaguars with a sharp 10-3 victory on Thursday. The win was some much needed relief for the Patriots as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Luke Beasley made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He is becoming a predictor of Hesperia Christian's success: when he allows at most three earned runs the team is 2-1 (and 6-8 when he doesn't). Beasley was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nathaniel Renner, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. He has become a key player for Hesperia Christian: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-9 otherwise. Israel Torres was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Hesperia Christian's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 8-9. As for University Prep, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 9-5.
