Baseball Recap: Corner Canyon Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Bingham

Corner Canyon faced Bingham in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Chargers fell 9-5 to the Miners. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Miners this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-1 on Tuesday.

Corner Canyon got a good showing from Dallon Stokes, who tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Stokes has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Tanner Mackay and Andrew Nice stepped up to the plate in a big way. Mackay got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Nice went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run. Another player making a difference was Nathan Horstmann, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Corner Canyon and nudges their season record down to 11-7. As for Bingham, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 14-4.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Corner Canyon beat the Miners by a score of 12-9 on Friday.
