Baseball Recap: Platt Takes a Loss

Platt fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against New Britain on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Hurricanes by a score of 7-6. Panthers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Hurricanes since Monday.

Jeam Ortiz was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Platt is 3-1 when Ortiz posts two or more runs, but 6-8-1 otherwise. Luis Inoa Ramos also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Platt has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-9-1 record this season. As for New Britain, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-5.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Platt will square off against rival Rocky Hill at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, New Britain is set to challenge their familiar foe Middletown at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
