Basketball Recap: Arickaree Takes a Loss

Arickaree was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost to the Fleming Wildcats on the road by a 49-30 margin. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 50-40 back in December of 2024.

Despite the loss, Arickaree still got an impressive performance from Ja'Niya Smith, who posted 14 points and five steals. Smith has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Raeya Schrock was another key player, putting up seven points and ten rebounds.

Fleming found their leader in sophomore Hayley Chamberlain, who shot 56% from the field en route to 21 points and seven boards. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for Chamberlain. Another player making a difference was Ciana Lousberg, who had four points and eight rebounds.

Arickaree's loss dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Fleming, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.

Arickaree has already played their next matchup, a 42-31 defeat against Caliche on the 28th. As for Fleming, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 35-29 victory against Hi-Plains on the 28th.
