Basketball Recap: Ashford Takes a Loss

If Ashford was feeling good fresh off their 49-12 takedown of Daleville last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Ashford Yellowjackets took a blow against the Geneva Panthers on Tuesday, falling 49-13. The Yellowjackets haven't had much luck with the Panthers recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.

Rayanna Ausley was a one-woman wrecking crew for Geneva as she went 5 of 7 en route to 16 points and five steals. Those 16 points gave Ausley a new career-high. Bella Johnson was another key player, putting up four points and six steals.

Ashford's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-7. As for Geneva, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ashford will take on Dale County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Ashford is facing Dale County at the right time seeing as Dale County is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Geneva, they will challenge Daleville at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Geneva is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51 points per game this season.
