Baseball Game Preview: Slaton Tigers vs. Friona Chieftans

The Slaton Tigers will head out on the road to square off against the Friona Chieftans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Slaton will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

Littlefield hit Slaton with a four-run second inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Tigers took a 12-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Riley Martinez was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Jeremy Floyd, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.

Meanwhile, Friona was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 13th straight loss. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 22-10 to Idalou, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

Friona's defeat dropped their record down to 2-19. As for Slaton, their loss dropped their record down to 5-15-1.

Slaton came out on top in a nail-biter against Friona in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 7-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
