Recap: Stratford Red Devils vs. Pomperaug Panthers
This season hasn't been kind to The Stratford Red Devils, who are still winless after their seventh game. They were dealt a 34-6 defeat at the hands of Pomperaug on Friday. Stratford lost against Pomperaug in their previous head to head back in October of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 20-0 score last time.
Pomperaug had a senior duo take command as Cooper Simmons rushed for 135 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries and Carter Frank rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
Stratford's defeat was their sixth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-7. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 7.7 points per game. As for Pomperaug, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.
Stratford will head out on the road to face off against Bethel at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Connecticut (Bethel is ranked 137th, while Stratford is ranked 129th). As for Pomperaug, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Newtown at 6:30 p.m. Newtown has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 155 points over their last four matchups.
