Softball Recap: Liberty Wins Going Away Against Independence

While Liberty put up some runs on Saturday, the same can't be said for Independence. The Liberty Patriots put the hurt on the Independence Falcons with a sharp 6-0 victory. The Patriots haven't had any issues with the Falcons recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

The result came thanks to Rebecca Calvin's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up seven Ks. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in earned runs (zero).

On the hitting side, Lina Gonzalez was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Claire Williams, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Liberty was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .391 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Liberty's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Independence, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Looking ahead, Liberty will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Bakersfield Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Independence, they will take on Garces Memorial in a tournament on Friday.
