Basketball Recap: Southampton Academy Comes Up Short

Southampton Academy lost against Brunswick Academy back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Southampton Academy Raiders took a 66-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Brunswick Academy Vikings. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 208th, while the Vikings are ranked 76th).

When it comes to explaining why Southampton Academy lost, don't look at G Applewhite. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 25 points and 19 rebounds. Applewhite is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least 11 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was A Darden, who posted ten points and six rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Southampton Academy and nudges their season record down to 3-5. As for Brunswick Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.

Southampton Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 68-54 victory against Halifax Academy on the 13th. As for Brunswick Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, an 83-60 win against Kerr-Vance Academy on the 13th.
