Baseball Game Preview: Aspen Skiers vs. Roaring Fork Rams

The Aspen Skiers will head out to challenge the Roaring Fork Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Aspen is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.

Aspen is headed into the matchup having just posted their closest win since March 15, 2024 on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Gunnison 2-1. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Skiers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Thor Raarup made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He is becoming a predictor of Aspen's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 5-11 when he doesn't). Raarup was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

Raarup wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Caden LaPointe, who went 2-for-3 with one run. That's the most hits LaPointe has posted since back in March.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 23 runs the game before, Roaring Fork was a bit more limited in their game on Tuesday. They fell just short of North Fork by a score of 2-1.

Roaring Fork has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games. As for Aspen, their record now sits at 7-12.

Aspen suffered a grim 8-2 defeat to Roaring Fork in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Skiers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
