Softball Recap: University Trojans vs. Irvine Vaqueros

University had lost three straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 8-8 to make it four. They fell 12-8 to the Irvine Vaqueros. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vaqueros this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-2 on April 7th.

Amela Hoang made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Sophia Weinberg was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs.

As for Irvine, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-14. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

On Irvine's side, they got a massive performance out of Abby Sasaki, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Those four runs gave Sasaki a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Reese Villanueva, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Coming up, University will face off against Trabuco Hills at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. As for Irvine, they will square off against Long Beach Poly at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
