Recap: Salpointe Catholic Lancers vs. Mountain Pointe Pride
There's no place like home for The Salpointe Catholic Lancers, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. They walked away with a 35-26 victory over Mountain Pointe on Friday. The victory was just what Salpointe Catholic needed coming off of a 49-0 defeat in their prior game.
Leading Salpointe Catholic to victory were Richard Rivera and Jaxson Banhie. Rivera rushed for 69 yards on only five carries, while Banhie rushed for 66 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. Dinos Drossos got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Salpointe Catholic's victory was their tenth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 7-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-7 Valley Vista and 2-8 Mountain View (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 34.5% over those games). As for Mountain Pointe, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.
Salpointe Catholic will head out on the road to face off against Saguaro at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Saguaro is ranked seventh, while Salpointe Catholic is ranked 20th). As for Mountain Pointe, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Brophy College Prep at 7:00 p.m.
