Basketball Recap: St. Charles Starts Season with Defeat at Home + How To Watch

St. Charles unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took a 55-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Michigan Lutheran Seminary Cardinals on Monday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bulldogs of the 52-47 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January.

When it comes to explaining why St. Charles lost, don't look at Nicole Zelinko. Despite the final result, she posted 16 points along with five boards and four steals. Zelinko is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in each of the last three games she's played dating back to last season. Allison Zelinko was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with nine points and 18 rebounds.

Michigan Lutheran Seminary got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Charli Alcorn out in front who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 11 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Adeline Wenzel, who shot 40% from the field en route to 13 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals.

St. Charles and Michigan Lutheran Seminary will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Bulldogs will challenge rival Vestaburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Michigan Lutheran Seminary is set to square off against their familiar foe Nouvel Catholic Central at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
