Softball Recap: Holy Family Catholic Fire vs. DeLaSalle Islanders

Holy Family Catholic had lost three straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 5-7 to make it four. They fell 7-3 to the DeLaSalle Islanders. The Fire were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Islanders apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.

Kyla Kockler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Isla Johnson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI. Mara Feldmann was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

As for DeLaSalle, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games.

On DeLaSalle's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Eva Heinecke gave up only one earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits.

At the plate, Elina Ditty was incredible, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Evan Ewert, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Holy Family Catholic will square off against Jordan at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. DeLaSalle does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
