Softball Recap: Santiago Comes Up Short

The Santiago Sharks didn't have quite enough to beat the Bonita Bearcats on Wednesday and fell 10-9.

Santiago got a good showing from Grace Leach, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Leach has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sophia Griffin was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Autumn Celaya was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.

Santiago's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Bonita, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That lines up perfectly with their 15-5 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Santiago will welcome King at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wolves' pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so the Sharks' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Bonita, they will be taking part in a tournament against Monrovia at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bearcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season.
