Baseball Recap: Vela Comes Up Short

If Vela was feeling good fresh off their 16-2 takedown of Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Vela Sabercats fell just short of the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North Raiders by a score of 4-3 on Tuesday. The Sabercats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Raiders apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Vela got a good showing from Romeo Bautista, who didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Nick Guevara was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last 15 matchups.

Vela's loss dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North, their victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-2.

While Vela had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
