Volleyball Recap: Ally Howell Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat Wilmington

While Monroe's victory against Wilmington wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Hornets sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Hurricane on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Hurricane: they've now won four in a row.

If you add up the scores from across all five sets (97-92) Monroe actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 26-24, 25-16, 11-25, 15-25, 15-7.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Monroe to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ally Howell, who had 17 digs and two assists. Those two assists gave Howell a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lily Mendez-Regules, who had 24 assists and five digs.

Monroe's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-17. As for Wilmington, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season.

Monroe will square off against Miamisburg at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Wilmington, they have already played their next matchup, a 3-1 victory against New Richmond on the 2nd.
