The Montezuma-Cortez Panthers will head out on the road to square off against the Bayfield Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Montezuma-Cortez is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Pagosa Springs on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Panthers were dealt a 42-10 loss at the hands of the Pirates. The Panthers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-3.

Meanwhile, Bayfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were outmatched by Gunnison and fell 38-7.

Montezuma-Cortez's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Bayfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.

Everything came up roses for Montezuma-Cortez against Bayfield in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 43-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
