South Stanly extends road losing streak to seven

Recap: South Stanly Rowdy Rebel Bulls vs. Union Academy Cardinals

The South Stanly Rowdy Rebel Bulls's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their 12th straight loss. They were dealt a 81-11 loss at the hands of Union Academy. While losing is never fun, South Stanly can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 584th, while Union Academy is ranked 92nd).

Jaiden Thompson was her usual excellent self, scoring 29 points along with eight rebounds and two steals for Union Academy. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thompson has scored all season. Paisley Boatright was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with two steals.

South Stanly bumped their record down to 1-12 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.3 points per game. As for Union Academy, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Stanly will take on Gray Stone Day at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gray Stone Day is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. As for Union Academy, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Mount Pleasant at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Mount Pleasant and Union Academy are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads.
