Basketball Recap: LBJ Austin Falls Despite Big Games from Ja Shawn Waters and Antione Baker

After flying high against Pflugerville Connally last Tuesday, LBJ Austin came back down to earth. The LBJ Austin Jaguars fell 47-40 to the Lago Vista Vikings on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Jaguars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 633rd, while the Vikings are ranked 129th).

LBJ Austin's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Antione Baker, who posted five points along with nine boards and five steals, and Ja Shawn Waters, who earned 13 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Baker a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Marquis Murry Ii, who put up ten points.

Lago Vista's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Henry Sisemore, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 21 points along with seven boards and three steals. Sisemore has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Porter Herrod was another key player, putting up 13 points and eight rebounds.

LBJ Austin has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Lago Vista, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 13-1.

LBJ Austin will look to defend their home court on Friday against Austin Achieve at 7:00 p.m. Lago Vista and Florence will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
