Basketball Recap: Megan Callahan Key Part of a Team Effort in Wolves Win

St. Augustine Catholic won the last time they faced Santa Rita and things went their way on Tuesday too. The St. Augustine Catholic Wolves were the clear victor by a 52-26 margin over the Santa Rita Eagles. The Wolves have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 22 points or more this season.

St. Augustine Catholic's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Megan Callahan, who went 6 of 15 on her way to 15 points and four steals. Callahan's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lourdes Gamez, who posted six points along with seven steals and six boards.

St. Augustine Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Santa Rita saw an underclassman step up: freshman Amber Samson had nine points. Jlynn Smith was another key player, putting up three points.

St. Augustine Catholic's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-6. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.0 points per game. As for Santa Rita, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Augustine Catholic will square off against Willcox at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Santa Rita, they will challenge San Miguel at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Santa Rita is facing San Miguel at the right time seeing as San Miguel is stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
