Softball Recap: Four Straight Home Wins for Granite City

Granite City came out on top against Dupo on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fourth inning. The Warriors skirted past the Tigers 6-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Warriors.

Christine Myers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Alexis Ruiz was excellent, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI. Morgan Buckingham also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Granite City's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-9. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Dupo, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-9.

Granite City wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 12-0 loss against Belleville East on the 6th. As for Dupo, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 17-2 victory against Althoff Catholic on the 6th.
